Broghil or Boroghol as the local put it, is a destination with a history, known background and is popular with tourists. It is the place from where in the Chiantar glacier originates the Chitral River. It has passes to different region of norther areas including the Darkot Pass [15000ft] that opens into the Yasin valley and Karambar Pass [14250] opening into the Iskkomon valley leading all the way to Gahkoch and Gilgit city. Darwaz Pass opens into Afghanistan. The total population of Broghil is about 5000 with yak breeding as the mainstay of the local economy. It has 6 months long winter with 6 feet deep snow during which the local hibernate drawing on what they store in summer from outside in addition to the local supplies of dairy product and meat. The festival continues for three days—from July 15-17—with the Yak polo is the prime sport in addition to free style polo, buzkahi, marathon race etc. Women display their handicrafts and artifacts and present guest with traditional cuisine that auguments their income. The objective of the festival is to provide income earning opportunities for the local Wakhi community, to protect and project their traditional culture and natural environment. According to the National Geographic Genographic Project, Broghol Pass appears to be the route used by the ancestors of all modern Western Europeans to reach Europe. Modern Europeans carrying the M45 genetic marker crossed Broghol and then turned west; M45 further mutated to become M173 and then M343, which is carried by 70% of the population of England.[1] [edit]Historical significance (Wikepedia) (Clip from a documentary by Mr.Imran Babar)
